Most of my most painful times, my darkest hours, provide a clarity of perspective that I would not have otherwise. It is a painfully humbling and sometimes frightening experience to have to look at another person and - despite all desire and will and talent - admit, "I am just not able". In such times, I face the stark reality of being human and weak. Beauty and divinity comes at times of such weakness and fragility when I summon the courage to say "I need you" to others and my God. In so doing, I am reminded that I am nothing, really, if I only have myself; it is from love, grace, fellowship, and God that I am made whole. Gratefulness is all that then remains.
