Say My Name

I saw you and thought of when we might make love.

I thought of grasping your forearms,

feeling you breathe heavy into my hair,

bearing your weight on me,

clutching your bare back to hold you on,

and moving with and in each other in a steady rhythm.

It hadn't happened yet, but I knew it would,

starting the moment you moved in my direction

and parted the air between us.

It hadn't happened yet,

but after it did,

I knew you in a way words could not complete.

In reflection, I want you again.

So, come, part the air and draw near me.

Say my name.

You are and have been my lover from

before it even happened.
