All There Is to Know

He asked me, "What are your dreams, your dares, your designations?"
I told him I don't let anyone know that much about me.
I asked him, "What are your regrets?"
He explained there's no reason for me to hear all his miseries.
So we sat in silence, both afraid, broken, and not ready.
But as we took each other in, the silence caused no divide.
Rather, our in- and exhales fell in rhythm and the quiet sharpened our awareness of the other.
With this meditation, courage grew and I finally said, "I want you to know me."
Hearing that, he said, "My dear, already know all there is to know."
And a lifetime followed.
Despite the years of questions and explanations, travels and explorations, not once did we know each other any more than we did on that first day.
This is why, the day he neared his death, I said nothing.
I just sat with him for hours until the moment passed that he was gone.
And to this day, I need nothing.
Nothing but the memory of My Love who knew me so completely.
